Abstract:
Addresses stored in this data set originated from the address records maintained by the Flathead County Plat Room. Since inception of the address improvement program by Flathead County GIS, addresses are assigned through this office. The address is primarily determined by the access to a property and is assigned to a parcel. The spatial location of the address point does not represent the physical location of the building. Address assignments within city limits are issued by the City of Columbia Falls, City of Whitefish, and City of Kalispell and are immediately added to the existing address data.
Purpose:
This data set was compiled for building and dwelling identification purposes and for future use with 911. This data set is now used extensively by the Flathead County GIS department for mapping and analysis purposes as well as by the Flathead County Sheriff's office with the E911 automated dispatching software.

Attribute accuracy report:
Ongoing efforts are being made to research inconsistencies with conflicting address databases. Currently, the data set is offered "as-is" without warranty of any kind.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report:
The point location of the address is not an indication to the actual ground location of a dwelling but rather an indication of an address assigned to the parcel(s). The address point location is positioned anywhere inside of the parcel to which it was assigned.Positional accuracy for this data is defined when taken simultaneously with Flathead County GIS's Parcel layer. Field surveys were conducted on a sampling of 10 townships in the parcel layer, which revealed an average error of 11.36 feet, with a maximum error of 26.69 feet and a standard deviation of 7.86 feet.
